Outdoors

The outdoors is the East End’s greatest draw: ocean beaches, Montauk’s famous lighthouse, a sports and commercial fishing
fleet with centuries of traditions. Camping facilities, parks and playing fields allow families to enjoy the scene without the high costs. Calm ponds and bays and a turbulent surf invite canoes and kayaks as well as boogie boards.

Hiking

Flying in the face of endless forces for development, East End communities continue to set aside land for everyone to enjoy. Every weekend there are walks or hikes listed in weekly local papers.  Sturdy shoes, a bottle of water, a snack and maybe a pair of binoculars are all you need to enjoy ocean cliffs, a desert of dunes, glacial kettle ponds, woods of laurel and vistas of salt marshes, pine barrens, and the famed potato fields.
